  One of the outcome of the recent spill in the Gulf of Mexico, is the spread of heavy oils on the shores and beaches in that area. The challenge for responders will be to clean up the viscous materials. A key aspect of my work is to understand and fnd new ways to reduce the viscosity of heavy oil. Although it is based on the production of crude oil; it will also find application in oil spill response.
