• Question: Do you believe in a 'soul' or somthing similar to make us 'us', to see through the eyes you see though, and not anyone else. In addition, do you think that any possible teleportation remove the 'soul' from the body?

I personally do not believe in the soul. I think that we are complex organisms, and our personalities and everything else that makes us ‘us’ is a complicated function of all our experiences as well as our DNA. The reason I do not consider this to be a ‘soul’ is that it relies on all of the bits of our brain functioning together, all the way down to the tiny molecules moving around in our cells.

I don’t believe teleportation would be possible to remove the ‘soul’ from the body for just that reason – it’s not one thing but a complex mixture of many things.

I think discussions on the soul are a long way from my area of materials science and border on the religious. I think the human brain and mind are incredibly complex things and most of the “supernatural” experiences such as religion and the idea of souls will one day be explained as we learn more about how we work.
