What you are talking about is the big crunch – the big bang in reverse, with everything in the universe coming back to a point. I’m not an astrophysicist, so I’m not an expert on this subject, but it seems to me that a ‘heat death’ scenario is more likely – where everything in the universe is spread out as much as it possibly can so that there aren’t planets, stars or anything. The temperature in this case would approach absolute zero, which is why it’s called ‘heat death’.
This description is often accompanied by a quote from T.S. Eliot, which I think sums it up rather nicely:
“This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.”
