      I’m pretty sure that research and innovation is vital for the future of the planet. Without it we will never find alternative energy sources, new fuels, new sources of food and new medicines (to name a few).
      We also need social change and political change in order for such new innovations to be accepted and be beneficial.

      Yes! I think so! as due to increased world population we need to grow more food. That means cutting more forests for agriculture, causing global warming. If with my research I can save a bit of crops which are wasted due to various insect pests, it will save a bit of forests. It is therfore good for the future of earth.

      I don’t think my research is likely to have much impact on the Earth. Hopefully it will be able to help people in the future though.
