The first step is to work hard at school, particularly in science and maths. English is also important as scientists need to be able to communicate their work both in writing and speaking.

You’ll need science A levels to get into a degree in science, and you’ll need to check what A levels are needed for the kind of course you want to do, but it’s always good to have a broad outlook and understand as many areas of science as possible. The more you understand, the more valuable you are as an employee in any field of science.

The most important thing is to work hard and do your best to understand everything that you study in science, as every step in your education relies on you understanding what you did in the previous step.

Well the most sensible thing is to study as much science as possible at school and work hard to get good grades. Don’t worry if your not good at all the sciences, I was never very good at biology.
You’ll definitely need good science A levels and then go to do a good science based degree in something you really enjoy.
And remember “scientist” is not really a job in its own right, you will be a scientist working in a particular field such as biology, materials or maybe drugs or even an engineering based job such as in car manufacturing or in the power industry.
We will need scientists and engineers for the future green engineering revolution and renewable power generation and also in the medical care professions, looking after people like me when i get old! 🙂
